Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about TypeSwift's free typing practice and speed test.
Still have questions?
What is TypeSwift?
TypeSwift is a free online typing practice tool. You get an instant typing speed test with real English paragraphs, live WPM/accuracy tracking, and a simulated typing exam — all in your browser, with no sign-up, no downloads, and no ads.
Is TypeSwift really free?
Yes — 100%. Every feature (the typing test, the English paragraphs, the speed test, and the exam mode) is completely free. We do not ask for a credit card, do not lock features behind a paywall, and do not charge for premium tiers.
Do I need to create an account or register?
No account is required. You can start typing the moment the page loads. We built the site on the principle that practice should be instant — no email, no password, no phone number.
How is my typing speed (WPM) calculated?
We count how many characters you type correctly, convert that to "words" (each word = 5 characters, the standard), and divide by the elapsed minutes. Errors are subtracted to give you Net WPM. For example, 250 characters typed in 1 minute with 5 errors = (250 / 5 − 5) / 1 = 45 Net WPM.
What is a good typing speed in WPM?
For general use, 40+ WPM is solid. Professional data-entry roles often expect 60-80 WPM with 98%+ accuracy. Exam-style tests (like SSC, RRB, or banking tests) commonly require 25-40 WPM in English. Remember: accuracy matters just as much as speed — slow and correct beats fast and sloppy.
How many English typing practice paragraphs do you offer?
Our paragraph library rotates through dozens of original passages curated for variety in length, vocabulary, and difficulty. We have short sentences for beginners, medium passages for intermediate typists, and long-form paragraphs for exam preparation and endurance training.
Can I use TypeSwift for my typing exam?
Absolutely — our Exam mode mirrors the format of major Indian competitive exams (SSC CHSL, SSC CGL, RRB NTPC, banking PO/clerk tests, and court stenography tests) with real English paragraphs and standard 1- and 2-minute intervals. Use it as daily mock-test practice, but check with your examining authority for the official benchmark.
